The winning design beat off competition from 14,599 entries submitted in a contest open to the public. The new logo is designed to represent different countries, cultures and ways of thinking according to its creator Asao Tokolo. Tokyo's Olympic organisers had to scrap their initial logo last year over allegations of plagiarism due to its similarity to the logo of a theatre in Belgium. Designer Tokolo hopes his logo will help create lasting connections SOUNDBITE: (Japanese) Asao Tokolo, designer: "I just found out so my head is blank. It took a long time to design - the design is like my child. I hope it (referring to the design) will spread and create more connections. Thank you very much." Source:pSNTV/p
