His secret in addition to conditioning was pretty decent foot speed: 9.6 in 100 yards.

That kind of pisses me off. Mike was a truly great guy. I used to run with the socal Striders and he'd come out this was a few years after he had won in tokyo but he was just one of the guys. He wasn't competing anymore but he loved to run. I can tell you this he was genuinely fast. If there is proof, and it would have to be irrefutable, I'd like to see it. But someone denigrating such a fine individual just stinks in my book.

In one of the articles in the October 25, 2010 issue of Forbes magazine, someone makes the claim that Larabee was juiced up on performance-enhancing drugs during the 1964 Olympics. Is there any truth to this claim?
-
@SPMYKET - Actually he didn't compete in this race. Richard Stebbins ran the third leg on the gold medal winning American 4x100 m relay team, not the 4x400.
-
@ikachanusa - That was Ulis Williams, he was ranked #1 in the world in 62 (while in HIGH SCHOOL) & 63, 5th in 64. He finished 5th in the '64 Olympic Games 400m and won a gold medal running the third leg of the 4 x 400 relay.
